Acadian Cultural Center Field Trips At the Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette, curriculum-based programs are available for kindergarten through 3rd grade students. Just for fun, students can also see films about the deportation of the Acadians from Canada and their arrival in Louisiana or about Louisiana's Atchafalaya Basin. Other activities include Jean Lafitte's Treasure Chest (a ranger-guided program about the park), the K.I.M.S. game (to sharpen observation skills), scavenger hunts in the center, and a Junior Ranger program.
Field Trip Information for TeachersPlan like a Park Ranger! Be prepared for your field trip and learn about our facility and programs below. Buses may pull up to the front sidewalk to let students off. Once all students, chaperones, and teachers are off the bus, the bus must move to the bus parking spaces in the back of the parking lot.
A water fountain is available at the Acadian Cultural Center, but there are no food or drinks to purchase. Although a lunch break will not be included in the program, you are welcome to eat your bag lunches at the picnic area outside. No food, drink, or gum is allowed in the theater or museum. Plan to leave them on the bus. Dispose of Waste Properly. Take all trash with you. Leave what you find. Leave all natural objects where you find them. Respect wildlife. Although we are in the city, we still have wildlife such as alligators, squirrels, insects, snakes, birds, and racoons (to name a few). Observe wildlife from a distance and never feed them. Be considerate of other visitors. Avoid loud voices and noises. Food, drinks, chewing gum, and candy are not allowed in the building. Food particles attract pests that could be harmful to the exhibits. Please leave lunches and drinks on the bus. Remember this is a Cultural Center! People from all over the world come to learn about Cajun culture. Please show respect by being polite and attentive. Stay with your group! Pay close attention, follow directions, and stay together so we may complete your program. Be aware of your surroundings and don’t run. Keep yourself and others safe by being respectful and walking in the building. Plan early! Jean Lafitte requires a chaperone for every ten students. Extra chaperones are welcome.
If your program takes place inside our facility, consider bringing a light jacket or sweater. If your program takes place outside on our grounds, plan for the weather. Bring insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, closed toed shoes, and a water bottle.
