Arthur Papers at Library of Congress

Chester Alan Arthur was the 21st President of the United States. He was President James A. Garfield's Vice President and after the death of Garfield was sworn is as the next president. He was from New York and would only fufil the rest of Garfield's presidency without running for another term. Arthur's papers are digitally available at the Library of Congress website.

The collection of papers available consist of topics such as correspondence, clippings, and other papers relating to Arthur's presidency, his service as collector of customs for the Port of New York, and the New York Republican State Committee. Some of the correspondence was with individuals such as Roscoe Conkling, Ulysses S. Grant, Charles Julius Guiteau, Philip Henry Sheridan, John Sherman, William T. Sherman among others.
