Visiting Glacier?

Cool! Check out these opportunities while you are here:

• Join a ranger-led activity. Activity types and program details are found on the Ranger-led Activities page.
• Visit Apgar Nature Center.
• Look at our Family Fun in Glacier page and find out about family-friendly trails and other activities children might enjoy while in Glacier.
• Print out our Tree Key and use it to identify 13 different conifers (trees or shrubs that bear cones) in Glacier. This helpful tool highlights the differences in the park's cone-bearing trees and can be carried anywhere, even the trail!
• Go on a learning adventure as part of an outdoor class or multi-day youth camp with Glacier Institute, a private nonprofit partner. The Institute's Big Creek Youth Camp and Youth Adventure Series offer different programs for ages ranging from 6 to 16. Topics include wilderness skills, forest and fire ecology, and art. They even have a Family Camp and adult field courses, too.
• Ride on a big bus and learn about the park at the same time! Glacier has some fun options for bus tours.

 

Visiting from Home?

No problem—imagine yourself on a Glacier adventure with these activities:

• Sing about Glacier. Try out the Glacier lyrics written to these familiar songs.
• See live footage of what's going on in the park on a webcam.
• Check out the digital version of an interactive, wildlife exhibit called Wildlife Superpowers.
• Learn what Citizen Scientists are doing to help monitor Glacier's wildlife.
• Color Me Wild. Print and color drawings of Glacier plants and animals, or read and color the ABCs of Glacier!
• Visit the National Park Service Become a Junior Ranger webpage.

Educational Opportunities

Are you Doing a School Project?

• The Glacier Student Resource Guide has lots of good information.
• Watch Science & Learning videos on specific resources or find instructions on hands-on activities to do at home or at school.
• Visit the student and teacher resource webpage.
• Learn about general national park archeology.

Are you a Fourth Grader?

• Fourth grade students (and their families) can enter Glacier National Park (and other public lands) for free by downloading and presenting a paper voucher from the Every Kid Outdoors website and exchanging it for their 4th Grade Pass. The pass is valid for the duration of the 4th grade school year and continues through the following summer (September-August).

Are you a Teacher or Educator?

• Interested in bringing students to Glacier, or bringing Glacier into your classroom? Education Programs, like field trips and lessons/activities for teachers, are available from the park and our education partners.
• Glacier Institute runs the Big Creek Outdoor Education Center on the park boundary. They also conduct programs from their Field Camp site in Apgar.
