Raccoons are found throughout Gateway, and are among the most common mammals in N.Y. and N.J. Adults weigh an average of 15 pounds and can be identified by their ringed tail and "mask". Litters of one to seven are born in April or May.
Raccoons are not nocturnal and it is normal to see them during the day.
Do your part to help keep wildlife wild by properly storing any food you bring camping and keeping your garbage secured. Do not feed raccoons pet food or human food.
