The park's staff works together to manage over 8,000 acres of battlefield land

The core of the park’s mission is to preserve and protect the lands and resources associated with four major Civil War battlefields and related sites that make up Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. The park provides the opportunity for the public to gain understanding of the impact of the Civil War in shaping our nation and its continued relevance for people today.

Park staff work in a variety of jobs in different branches to accomplish this goal. Staff work in maintenance, resources, interpretation, protection, and administration, with a superintendent who oversees park operations.

Within the National Park Service, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park is a part of Region 1, or the North Atlantic-Appalachian Region.
