"The dog days of summer." This is a hollow bodied lead dog made from a two piece mold. It has a white painted body, a green collar, black ears, eyes and nose, and a red mouth. It is posed as if looking up while walking. This type of toy was common during the late 19th century. One leg is partially broken. It was excavated in the Belle Point area of Fort Smith National Historic Site. |
