  • Heat, water, and a unique plumbing system are all necessary ingredients for a geyser. Therefore, alterations in any of the three result in changes in the geyser’s function.

    Natural change within a hydrothermal system is common and includes such things as earthquakes, changes in the activity between connected hydrothermal features, damage to the geyser’s plumbing system through violent eruptions, and deposition of sinter to the point where the underground channels become blocked.
