INTERMITTENT SPRINGS
The main distinction between geysers and intermittent springs is
that geysers erupt forcibly, while intermittent springs merely overflow
quietly from time to time.
Since many geysers also have periods when they overflow without
erupting, some scientists think intermittent springs may actually
be geysers with very rare eruptions.
