Plan Your Visit

Carlisle Federal Indian Boarding School National Monument is a new national park located in Carlisle Pennsylvania. The national monument is within the boundaries of the US Army’s historic Carlisle Barracks and includes the current home of the US Army War College. The National Park Service and US Army are working together on a short- and long-term plan for people to visit the site.

From 1879 to 1918, the historic military barracks was transferred to the Department of the Interior to administer the boarding school. Remnants of the school remain and are included in the 24.5-acre national monument, including the gates, gymnasium, former dormitories, exterior walls of a printing plant, cinder track, playing fields, and grandstand. The National Park Service will collaborate with affiliated Tribal Nations, US Army, local communities, and other partners to develop visitor opportunities.
