We strive to make the Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site accessible for everybody. Please contact us with your questions or concerns.

Please note that rehabilitation of the site is still ongoing. Future plans include the installation of an elevator and exhibits compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

 

The accessible parking spot and entrance are located behind the historic house.

Physical / Mobility

There is a designated accessible parking spot behind the building for one personal vehicle. A ramp and door opener provides access to the rear of the building. Please contact us in advance of your visit to make arrangements for using the accessible entrance.

The first floor of the historic house is accessible. The second and third floors can only be reached by stairs.

An accessible restroom is located on the first floor. The door can only be opened manually.

Deaf / Hearing Loss

If you would like to request an American Sign Language interpreter, please notify us two weeks in advance of your visit by contacting us.

Service Animals

Service animals are allowed at the site. Please see the U.S. Department of Justice's website for a definition of a service animal.
