The Research Learning Centers (RLC) were established in 2001 as part of the National Park Service’s Natural Resource Challenge Program. The Southern California Resource Learning Center (SCRLC) was established in 2002 and supports the Mediterranean Coast Network (MEDN) which consists of Cabrillo National Monument, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and Channel Islands National Park.
