Reed Visitor Center Big Cypress National Preserve Headquarters 33100 Tamiami Trail East Ochopee, FL 34141 Big Cypress National Preserve is located along Tamiami Trail East (US 41) and I-75 in southern Florida. The preserve can be accessed by driving from the cities of Miami and Naples. The preserve's two visitor centers are located along Tamiami Trail East. Big Cypress National Preserve experiences two predominant seasons- wet and dry. RAINY SEASON (May through October) While visiting during this season you may find daily afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, temperatures in the mid-to-high 80s and a multitude of mosquitoes. DRY SEASON (November through April) Falling water levels within Big Cypress make this a pleasant time to hike, camp, and watch wildlife.
Big Cypress National Preserve does not charge an entrance fee.
Backcountry hiking and camping require permits, but there is no fee. Campgrounds in the Preserve do charge fees for overnight stays. Go to www.recreation.gov for pricing and reservations. Entrance Fee-free This site is fee-free year-round. No entrance fee or pass is required. Nathaniel P. Reed Visitor CenterNathaniel P. Reed Visitor Center is a facility that was designed with energy conservation in mind, making maximum use of renewable resources. Oasis Visitor CenterThe Oasis Visitor Center contains exhibits related to the natural and cultural history of the preserve, educational materials, sales items, and an introductory film. Staff are available to assist visitors with information about available activities. Public WiFi is available.
The Nathaniel P. Reed Visitor Center has free public wifi. It shows up as 'NPS Visitor WiFi' when you look under connections on your device. No password is needed. The Oasis Visitor Center does not offer public wifi. Connectivity is spotty and unreliable along U.S. 41 (the Tamiami Trail). A cell tower at Monument Lake Campground offers better reception in the vicinity. The rest of the preserve lacks towers- do not expect service. Be PreparedVisiting Big Cypress National Preserve is an exciting experience. You want to be prepared for weather, road conditions, and wildlife.
