National Park Service histories

The Missile Plains: Frontline Of America's Cold War is the Minuteman Missile Historic Resource Study. This in-depth study includes chapters on missile development, life in the missile field and the arms race. This study can be downloaded as a complete document or chapter by chapter.

The Minuteman Missile National Historic Site Special Resource Study was done in 1995 to study the feasibility of preserving Delta-01 and Delta-09 as an historic site. This study includes chapters on the Minuteman's history, site description and management alternatives.

 

Oral Histories

Minuteman Missile Oral Histories are now online. These include valuable interviews with former missile field personnel, local citizens and contractor's who were part of the Minuteman's history for over three decades. More....

Did You Know?
The only Minuteman Missile ever launched out of an active silo took place at a silo north of Newell, South Dakota on March 1, 1965. The flight only lasted a total of seven seconds with the rocket landing in a nearby pasture.
