On May 11, 2013, a 68-year-old male became separated from his hiking partner and got lost near the Old Big Oak Flat Road Trail near Tamarack Creek. The hiking partner notified rangers and a search ensued. A YODOG team with a trailing dog found the hiker, uninjured, later that day. This incident serves as a good reminder to stay with your hiking partner, or ensure each member of the hiking party has a map or a plan to reunite in case of separation.
