Wawona Road Mechanical Thinning
Yosemite Fire Crews will begin a hazardous fuels reduction project along the east side of the Wawona Road south of the Wawona Golf Course. It will proceed to the south entrance of Yosemite National Park.
This project removes excess and ladder fuels that can carry fire from the forest floor to the canopy (tops of trees.) It is one method used by the National Park Service to reduce heavy accumulations of fuels. This project will help protect the Mariposa Grove of the Sequoias, park infrastructure, and the community of Wawona from unwanted fire. In turn, this helps preserve natural and cultural resources and provide for public and firefighter safety.
