An angulate orbweaver (Araneus gemma) has been making a home on the front porch of a ranger's house in the Hogdgon Meadow employee housing area. Every night this spider builds a large orb web to catch prey. This time of year, orb spiders are more commonly noticed because they have reached their full size and create their largest webs. The body of this spider was more than an inch long! When the first frosts come this spider will die but her eggs will survive the winter until the warmth of spring allows them to hatch out, releasing the new generation of orb weavers.
