Both federal subsistence and State of Alaska sport hunting are permitted in Wrangell-St. Elias National Preserve. State sport harvests are regulated by the Alaska Board of Game while federal subsistence harvests are regulated by the Federal Subsistence Board.
To be eligible to hunt in the park or preserve under federal subsistence regulations, you must be considered a local, rural resident. Are YOU eligible to subsistence hunt? Federal Subsistence Resident Zone Eligible Communities Wrangell-St. Elias National Park has 23 resident zone communities: Chisana, Chistochina, Chitina, Copper Center, Dot Lake, Gakona, Gakona Junction, Glennallen, Gulkana, Healy Lake, Kenny Lake, Lower Tonsina, McCarthy, Mentasta Lake, Nabesna, Northway, Slana, Tazlina, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Tonsina, and Yakutat.Resident zone community boundary maps are available for the communities of Dot Lake, Healy Lake, Northway, Tanacross and Tetlin:
