VIENNA, Va. – The National Park Service (NPS) in cooperation with the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, has completed the Environmental Assessment for the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts Management Plan. To better meet the needs of current and future visitors, we will implement several updates to the park’s general management plan—the plan that guides park management decisions.
Since 1971, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts has provided opportunities to experience live performances, learn about music and theater and explore nature. The updates in the plan will improve the visitor experience while continuing to preserve the history, landscape and resources of the only national park established as a performing arts venue. This Environmental Assessment amends the Park’s 1997 General Management Plan.
The amendment to the general management plan allows the park to:
-
Update Filene Center amenities to meet current industry standards.
-
Improve traffic flow, parking, and pedestrian circulation.
-
Improve accessibility for visitors with disabilities throughout the park.
-
Improve security.
-
Build, update, or replace facilities including concession stands and restrooms.
-
Add directional and wayfinding signs.
-
Expand opportunities for year-round park use.
Visitors can expect to see changes to the park, such as improved accessibility and seating reconfigurations, as early as this summer.
The NPS completed the Environmental Assessment for the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts Management Plan in November 2021 and signed a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on January 4, 2022. The FONSI describes why the selected plan will have no significant effects on the environment, provides the rationale for the decision and outlines conservation measures that will be taken to avoid, minimize and mitigate impacts.
The FONSI and other planning documents are available at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/WolfTrapEA.
