Bird Watching

Two park visitors look for birds through binoculars.

Some of the best areas to observe birds are on Mount Joy, along Valley Creek and the Schuylkill River, and in meadows throughout the park. Over 227 species of birds have been observed within Valley Forge National Historical Park.

Bird Walks

Bird walks are intended for birders of all levels, and beginners are welcome and encouraged. Each program lasts approximately 2 hours and covers 1.5 miles walking. Walks are primarily along paved trails but include short sections of gravel and grass. Good walking shoes are recommended.

Binoculars, hat, water, bug spray and sun protection are encouraged, but optional.

Meets at Artillery Park.

Walks are weather dependent and may be canceled in the event of electrical or ice storms. Please check the Valley Forge Park Alliance website for updates before heading to the program.
