Welcome to Virtual March-In!

We are commemorating the 243rd anniversary of the arrival of the weary Continental Army to Valley Forge with a whole week of featured activities and videos like this one!

The Story of Hannah Till

The march into Valley Forge did not just involve soldiers. Along with many other followers of the army, an enslaved woman named Hannah Till also made the journey. A year prior in 1776, Till’s owner had leased her to Washington, whereupon she joined his wartime staff as a skilled pastry cook.

To learn more about Hannah Till’s survival, resilience, and her contributions, watch our interview with Supervisory Park Ranger Ajena C. Rogers. A former living history interpreter at Valley Forge, Rogers reprised her role as Hannah Till for the park’s new orientation film, Determined to Persevere: the Valley Forge Encampment.
