Tuzigoot National Monument will close Monday through Friday beginning January 13 to complete lead and asbestos abatement on the historic wood windows in the Tuzigoot Visitor Center. As the abatement work will not occur on weekends, the park will be open for visitors to walk the trails on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 4:45 pm. The weekday closures are expected to last through February 7. The park is scheduled to return to daily operations starting Saturday, February 8. The Visitor Center will reopen once the window and carpet replacement is complete in late February. Visitors can check the park website for project updates. Clarkdale, AZ — On February 5, 2024, Tuzigoot National Monument will reopen Tavasci Marsh to the public. Tavasci Marsh had been closed to the public due to human safety risks of hazardous trees along the trails after a devastating fire on April 2, 2023; where approximately 106 acres burned. At this point, all hazardous trees along public trails have been removed. Camp Verde, AZ / Clarkdale, AZ — Beginning March 1, 2024 Tuzigoot and Montezuma Castle National Monuments will transition to a fully cashless fee system and only accept mobile or electronic payments for entrance and permit fees.  Clarkdale, AZ — On April 2, 2023, Tuzigoot National Monument was impacted by the Tuzigoot Fire, burning approximately 106 acres, mostly in Tavasci Marsh footprint. Since that date, Tavasci Marsh has been closed to the public for safety reasons. While the cause of the fire is still being investigated by Law Enforcement and due to human safety risks of hazardous trees along the trails, the marsh closure remains in effect until all hazardous trees can be removed and erosion control can be completed. To date, Tuzigoot National Monument has completed environmental and cultural compliance to execute hazard tree work with some of the tree removal tentatively scheduled for mid-January 2024. While a final date to reopen the marsh has not been set, once mitigations are completed to the extent that areas are deemed safe, the park will announce a re-open date for Tavasci Marsh and it’s trails to visitors. The following is prohibited:
•Smoking, including Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (E.N.D.S.), except when inside a personal vehicle.
•Any open flame source within the boundaries of the National Park Service without a written permit authorized by the Superintendent or their designee. Includes igniting, building, maintaining a fire of wood / charcoal briquettes. Use of propane fire in designated areas is allowed.  Tuzigoot National Monument will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 9, 2023. The Tuzigoot Fire, located within Tuzigoot National Monument, began on April 2 and is now 100% contained. The Tavasci Marsh and all trails leading to the marsh remain closed until further due to public safety concerns.  The Tuzigoot Fire, located within Tuzigoot National Monument is approximately 100 acres in size. The fire began the evening of April 2 and is being closely monitored as high winds are expected today. Tuzigoot National Monument and all trail access leading into Tavasci Marsh are closed to the public until further notice.
