Everyone loves watching orientation films at national park sites, right? Well, this one doesn't disappoint! "Ulysses S. Grant: A Legacy of Freedom" traces Grant's life from his boyhood in Ohio through his last battle against cancer and a race against time to finish writing his personal memoirs. Produced in 2014, this film summarizes Grant's military service in the American Civil War and provides new insights into his two terms as President of the United States. Some visitors like to start their experience by watching the film, while others prefer to tour White Haven and watch the film afterwards. The orientation film is 22-minutes long and is shown in the visitor center theater every half hour on the top and bottom of each hour. The first showing starts at 9:00AM and the last begins at 4:30PM. In the rare occassion of a special event taking place in the park theater, the film can also be shown on 65" television screen in the visitor center classroom.

Pets are not allowed into the park theater with the exception of service animals. A service animal is defined as “any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability." Dogs are the only animals that can be used as a service animal except for miniature horses.

The park's orientation film is played in the visitor center theater. There are two separate entrances into the theater. One entrance roughly ten feet from the front desk requires the use of two steps to access, while another entrance into the front of the theater is roughly 25 feet from the front desk but is accessible for people using wheelchairs, walkers, or other assisted mobility devices.

Accessibility Information
An accessible entrance on the east side of the park theater is provided for people who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other assisted mobility devices. The orientation film is shown with open captions. For people with hearing impairments, Assistive Listening Devices (ALD) are available for film presentations upon request. Furthermore, the theater is also equipped with an induction loop for visitors with T-coil enabled hearing aids. For people with visual impairments, Descriptive Listening Devices (DLD) are available upon request.
