Each spring, for only a short time, fireflies or lighting bugs appear in Timucuan Preserve. For a few weeks usually in April (weather permitting) the forests of the park put on a delightful show. Visitors can drive the loop road on Fort George Island, join a ranger on a night hike through Theodore Roosevelt Area, or sign up for a sunset kayak and hike excursion with park concessionaires to enjoy this seasonal activity.
