In the 1980s, techno music emerged in Detroit as a new genre of electronic dance music. Within a decade, techno?achieved?global popularity.?Submerge Record Distribution?played?pivotal?a role in that growth, producing some of techno’s earliest hits and collaborating with the genre’s pioneers?including?Juan Atkins, Kevin?Saunderson, and Derrick May.?It remains an operating recording studio and houses?the?techno collective?Underground Resistance?today. The site is also home to?Somewhere in Detroit Record Store and?Exhibit 3000,?a museum that?covers?the history?of techno.
