The National Park Service and the Fort Monroe Authority offer guided walking tours year-round. Tours may answer questions about different aspects of Fort Monroe's history. What peoples came to this area and what were their legacies? Who built the fort, why, and how?

Both the National Park Service and the Fort Monroe Authority offer guided walking tours year-round. Tours stop at numerous places at Fort Monroe. Topics may include:
- Several generations of seacoast fortifications,
- Fort Monroe's role in local and national defense,
- A diverse workforce who constructed the largest fortification in the Western Hemisphere,
- Histories of indigenous, colonizing, and enslaved people spanning hundreds of years, or
- Stories of people who created pathways of opportunity for others.

Pets are allowed on the grounds of Fort Monroe. They are not allowed inside the Visitor & Education Center, Casemate Museum, or other buildings.
Unless noted otherwise, tours start outside the Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center, 30 Ingalls Road, Fort Monroe, Virginia.
Guided walking tour stops are on the fort’s ground level. The tours follow sidewalks that have curb cuts.
