Go Mountain Biking in Cuyahoga Valley

The East Rim trail system offers adventures for mountain bikers with intermediate skills.

The East Rim Trail system has stunning views, varied terrain, exciting obstacles, and an element of adventure. It is made up of the 2.3-mile East Rim Trail, Post Line boulder field, 4.7-mile Lamb Loop, and 1.3-mile Edson Run. The four trails are designed for intermediate mountain bikers. Hikers and runners can explore them too.  

The trail map shows the layout. Everyone is advised to use extra caution. Note that the direction of one-way travel on these loops varies by day of the week. Rules and safety information is posted at the access points off the Bike & Hike Trail. Daily status is posted at the East Rim Trailhead. The hours are 6 am to 11 pm. Expect the system to be closed in wet or icy conditions. Pets and service animals are not allowed on the East Rim Trail system per the Superintendent’s Compendium.

Teamwork 

The East Rim Trails project is the result of a strong partnership between the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the National Park Service, and the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA). CAMBA volunteers help with trail building and maintenance. They also provide National Mountain Bike Patrol members who assist and educate all trail users on the East Rim Trails.

Other Opportunities 

Our partners provide two nearby systems that offer a range of experiences. Summit Metro Parks manages a mountain bike area at Hampton Hills Metro Park. This network includes trails rated beginner, moderate, and intermediate. Cleveland Metroparks manages a single track network at Bedford Reservation. This has choices rated beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Their link includes other nearby mountain biking options at Ohio & Erie Canal and West Creek reservations. 

There are more distant opportunities offered by Lake Metroparks, Stark Parks, Findley State Park, Mohican State Park, the City of Medina, Camp Tuscazoar, and Vultures Knob.

Park at the East Rim Trailhead, 281 Boston Mills Road, Peninsula 44264. Ride north on the Bike & Hike Trail a short distance. The first access point on your left is for the 2.3-mile East Rim Trail and short, technical Post Line boulder field. The second access point on your left is for the 4.7-mile Lamb Loop and 1.3-mile Edson Run.

Accessibility Information

The East Rim trail system is hilly and rocky. Cyclists are traveling fast and may be distracted as they navigate the challenging terrain. These trails are not recommended for people with limited vision, limited mobility, or slow reaction times. For safety, service and comfort animals are not allowed. The current ebike policy for the park is listed in the Superintendent’s Compendium.
