Bird Watching at Hampton

NPS/Tim Ervin
Baltimore County boasts over 260 species of birds that frequent the area both year round and seasonally. Although famous for the eponymous state bird, the Baltimore Oriole, the county and Hampton are frequented by a great variety of bird species. One of the most visible birds seen in the park are Blue Birds. The park has several Blue Bird boxes including on the designated Blue Bird Trail that runs along Hampton Lane on the Mansion Side of the park.
Impressive birds of prey also frequent Hampton's fields in search of food, and build nests in the many large trees on the property. Several species of hawks have been seen diving down into the fields to make their latest catch. Visitors might even be lucky enough to spot owls that have been known to occasionally nest in the park. Visitors interested in birding are encouraged to bring binoculars and enjoy the spectacular views of the many birds in the park from a safe distance!
