Using the answers the students will find out if they hold opinions that were held by the rebels, the moderates, and the federalists. Along the way they will learn about the events in this first test of federal power and how Albert Gallatin worked to find a solution.

Walk around a safe outside space with adult supervision and make a mark every time you see an example of food, water, shelter, and space. These are what animals need in their habitats to survive. You can write in a little dot, a checkmark, or you can even draw a little picture. Hint: A shelter could be a nest or a house, but remember it could also be the area underneath a log! Try with a partner and compare what you find!

We’re off on a grand adventure: a road trip across the famous Old Spanish Trail! The Old Spanish Trail was an arduous 1,200 mile route between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Los Angeles, California, which served traders who loaded their pack mules with woolen goods from Santa Fe each fall and returned from California each spring with goods, mules, and horses. The Old Spanish Trail linked two provinces of Mexico separated by difficult topography and climatic extremes.
