For this activity students will create a brochure for farmers. The brochure will describe the needs each crop has (soil type, weather, etc.), the impact of the crop on the soil and the different ways the crop can be used. Students will focus on cotton, tobacco, peanuts, soybeans and sweet potatoes. The goal is for students to understand the impact cash crops may have on soil quality and how farmers can replenish their soil through crop rotation.

Life at the Fort Ranger Guided Field Trip

This program explorers what life was like for the "Corps of Discovery" at Fort Clatsop in 1805-06. Groups of 20 students rotate through 30-minute activity sessions coordinated by the park staff: Visitor Center "Exhibit Seek and Find," "Nature Walk" and an interactive interpretive program with a ranger in buckskin at the fort. Concludes with a Flintlock Muzzle Loading Rifle or Musket program.

Take Me to the River is a hands-on educational program designed for fourth graders run out of Hidden Falls Regional Park each fall. The program focuses primarily on the cultural history of the river, but also addresses geography, geology, and physical science through hands-on activities. Students rotate through three activity stations led by National Park Service rangers including orienteering, geocaching, shelter-building, and fire-building.
