Exploring Climate Science (Climate Connections)
Climate Connections - Climate Science in Focus
Exploring Climate Science: Climate Change
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade
Exploring Climate Science: Weather and Climate
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade

In “Exploring Climate Science (Weather and Climate),” students will use tools to collect weather data and discuss the differences between weather and climate. Students will be able to: Compare and contrast weather and climate, providing at least three differences between the two. Use an anemometer and thermometer to collect local weather data

Climate Change Kit
- Type: Traveling Trunk
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade
Wolverines and Climate Change
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade

Students will demonstrate an understanding of specific adaptations that have prepared the pika and wolverine to survive in cool climates with harsh winter conditions. Students will additionally demonstrate an understanding of timescales and evolution, and how due to the increased speed of global temperature rise, climate change can have negative effects on these mammals despite their ability to adapt.
Aspect, Treeline, and Climate
- Type: Student Activities
- Grade Levels: Middle School: Sixth Grade through Eighth Grade

In this activity, students will learn about the factors that determine the location of the treeline in different locations in the world. The elevation of treeline is affected by the combined effects of snowpack depth, minimum winter temperatures, aspect, and soil moisture conditions. Treeline varies by latitude, but is also affected by whether it is an arid, temperate, or tropical climate.
Climate Change: A Warming Planet
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Middle School: Sixth Grade through Eighth Grade

Our world is always changing. Look out your window long enough and you might see the weather change. Look even longer, and you'll see the seasons change. The Earth's climate is changing, too, but in ways that you can't easily see. Round-n-round the Earth goes, where change may happen nobody knows! This program will help students understand the changes occurring in the Earth’s climate, its impact on local ecosystems and help them discover ways to help.

Climate: Drought, Seasons, and Health
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade
Is climate change new? Josiah Gregg, as a firsthand observer, offers a snapshot of ecological shifts taking place in the 1830s and 1840s within the southern Great Plains. In this lesson students will compare weather averages for cities along the Santa Fe Trail and consider how seasonal patterns affect the migration and survival of human and animal species.
Climate Change Scavenger Hunt
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade
Climate Change & Bird Range
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: High School: Ninth Grade through Twelfth Grade

Tule Springs Expedition Research Learning Center partners with our local Audubon Society Chapter to participate in the Climate Watch bird survey citizen science project. Citizen scientists across North America report the data they collected during these surveys to help document how bird species are responding to climate change and shifting their ranges. This activity explores how different climate change scenarios may affect bird populations locally. Author: Jake Johnson & Lauren Parry

Exploring Climate Science (Watershed)
Exploring Climate Science: Watersheds
- Type: Lesson Plan
- Grade Levels: Upper Elementary: Third Grade through Fifth Grade

In “Exploring Climate Science (Watersheds),” students will explore the local watershed to learn how communities, the region, and state are connected by water. The students will be able to: 1. State the watershed(s) in the area and explain why it is important. 2. Show how the watershed connects their town to others in the area/region
