Students are introduced to the situation surrounding the Whiskey Rebellion along with the opinions held by the rebels, the moderates, and the federalists. Then the park ranger will ask the students nine multiple choice questions. Each one of the three answers represents either the rebel, moderate or federalist opinion. Using the survey the students will find out where they would have stood in the Whiskey Rebellion.
Objectives:
By the end of the programs the students will be able to
- list two reasons the rebels thought the Whiskey Tax was unfair
- list one action the rebels took to protest the tax
- list two reasons the federalist thought the Whiskey Tax was fair
- list one action the federalists took to uphold the tax
- identify where they stood in this first test of the federal government
Length
This program takes about 45 minutes. Friendship Hill is in the eastern time zone
Items you will need
Each student should have a paper and pencil so that while participating they can record their answers to the nine questions.
