Preparation
You will need to contact our education office to be sent a digital copy of these materials.
Materials Needed:
- Paper and art supplies, such as markers.
- Print out “Shapes of the Landscape” worksheet.
- Photos
Procedure
- National Parks are also a place were many people come to create art. Every park has elements in it that we can use to create artwork.
- Hand each student a worksheet, a plain piece of paper, and art supplies.
- Task them with looking over the worksheet. There are geometric, abstract, and lines all pictured. Art is made up of these elements, and many more. But today you will be focusing on shapes. Look around you, what are some of the things you see that are made up of the shapes pictured? Desks? Lockers? Clouds? Leaves? Wheels?
- Today you have a challenge. You will need to draw some of elements of the photographs of Cane River Creole NHP, but you are to try including as many shapes as you can from this worksheet. As you include each shape, mark it off. See if you can draw them all!
- Allow students about 1/4 an hour to draw their photos. Check on each student as they create their art.
- When time is up, allow students to reflect on their artwork. Allow students who want to share stand Infront of the group and tell everyone about the artwork they have created, and what shapes and lines they have included in order to create this art. Provide guided questions appropriate to area, age, and art created.
