What is the significance of the southern campaign to the victory against the British?

Objective

Students will research the Southern Campaign in order to plan a field trip. They will identify four locations and explain their importance. Then they will estimate the distance traveled of the trip using the distance formula.

This work sheet contains three successive activities. On the last activity there are two options: One with the locations marked or a more challenging option with nothing marked.

Procedure

    Step 1: Introduce the importance of the southern campaign
    Step 2: Give students the opportunity to research independently or in pairs
    Step 3: Pass out the supplementary questions once they have enough research
    Step 4: With a calculator give them the map to determine the distance.
    Step 5 (optional): Compare field trip plans as a who class or in groups.
