Essential Question

What is special about Missouri and how are you connected to the land where you live?

Objective

Students will be able to identify and connect with their state and become familiar, appreciative, and engaged with the history and future of its development

Preparation

Students will research representative ideas of Missouri. Show that representation in the form of media, i.e.., picture, video, Instagram or tweet.

Materials

This is a power point lesson to help students become aware of the diversity of Missouri in all aspects.

Lesson Hook/Preview

Ask students to show you something that they can do or something that they can share out loud. Once students have shared, ask them to connect their action or story to the phrase "Show-Me" Missouri. Then segue into the class lesson that will give them a deeper dive into their knowledge and interaction with the state of Missouri.

Procedure

Students will need to have a working copy of the following Power Point "Meet Missouri". 

Once the power point is accessed, students will find a slides with resources, prompts, and activities to be conducted at the teacher's discretion.

Concluding Discussion: Have students discuss what they learned about themselves and those that live around them. Reiterate the diversity that comprises Missouri.
 

Supports for Struggling Learners

Provide students with pre-selected spots for the road trip based on their interest or depth of knowledge. Provide students with a reduction of the amount or number of required responses on the slides.

Enrichment Activities

Create a vlog, blog of the Missouri Roadtrip and share it with the National Fort Scott Historic Site or your teacher. Be sure to include your perspective of what you saw, did, and discovered.
