Imagine yourself as a settler in St. Louis getting ready to head west. What supplies would you buy? What trail would you take? Who would join you on your voyage?
In this program, students will confront some of the same choices early pioneers faced while traveling west across prarires, rivers, and mountains from St. Louis to Oregon and California. A Park Ranger will work with students in a virtual setting to help them understand the nature of westward expansion in the 1800s.
Virtual programs typically last around 20-25 minutes with time for Q&A. Please be prepared to share your screen or hosting capability with the ranger so they can use any digital materials they have created. The ranger will also email the teacher any suggested activities and sujbect specific materials ahead of time. Reservations must be made at least 30 days in advance. When setting up a virtual tour, be prepared to answer the following questions:
-
Confirm the program topic, date, time (and time zone).
-
Is there anything specific you would like to see highlighted in the program?
-
Please share any other pertinent information about your class (such as any necessary accomodations for students with visual or hearing impairments).
-
What digital platform you will be using and the digital link to connect to.
