Overview
Can’t make it to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore? We’ve got you covered with our new distance learning programs! The Great Lakes Piping Plover program will introduce your students to the endangered piping plover, what factors impact their survival, and how rangers at Sleeping Bear Dunes are making a big difference for this little bird. Complete a pre-visit lesson with your students, get a virtual visit from a ranger, and wrap things up with a post-visit lesson. Please contact us at e-mail us and tell us you’d like to schedule a Great Lakes Piping Plover distance learning program, and give us a preferred date for a test call and the virtual ranger visit.
Objectives
After completing these lessons, students will be able to:
- Create food web including piping plovers
- Make claims about how the elimination of piping plovers would affect food webs and the local ecosystem
- List facts about piping plovers and their lives.
- Persuade people to take actions to protect piping plovers
- List ways people can help protect piping plovers
- Identify threats to piping plovers habitat
