Objective

Identify differences and similarities between student families and those of President Clinton

Background

Families are more similar than we think. This activity will be good for relationship building and demonstrate similarities between students.

Preparation

Site visit to President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site

Materials

Used for post-visit activity to consider similarities and differences in the student's life to that of Bill Clinton's upbringing.

As a class, what are some of our similarities?

Procedure

Teacher will lead a discussion on what aspects of President Cllinton's early years were similar or different than the student's experiences.

Using the enclosed Venn diagram, students can compare and contrast their family lives to that of Bill Clinton's.

Enrichment Activities

For younger students, the teacher could designate a linear spectrum, ask aloud questions and students could "vote with their feet" by moving from one end to the other based on their individual answers, e.g. live with grandparent, has a brother, likes music, etc.
