“Claudia’s Story” is a 1 hour program on-site at the Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. Students will learn about the journey of the Acadians. Students will understand why and how the Acadians came to south Louisiana and would make this place their home.

Through the pre-visit activity “The Land of Acadie”, students will prepare for their field trip to the Acadian Cultural Center by identifying the land, water, and coastline of Acadie. Additionally, the pre-visit activity “Pack It Up” will practice critical thinking skills by determining what they would bring with them to survive in a different place.

On-site during the field trip, students will watch the short film “Claudia’s Story” to learn the story of the Acadians. Students will become explorers and learn about Cajun culture through a mapping activity in the museum.

Through the post-visit activities, students will utilize their new mapping skills to discuss the settlement of Acadians in Louisiana.
