Buffalo Soldiers: The 10th Cavalry at Fort Larned

The men of the 10th Cavalry, Company A, were the some of the first African Americans trained as regular soldiers in the U.S. Army – and they came directly to Fort Larned in 1867. Through a live and interactive lesson with a park ranger via the Internet, students will examine the history of African American service on the frontier, their service at Fort Larned, and the many challenges they faced. 

Program Length: 20 - 30 minutes long.
