This distance learning opportunity explores prescribed fires. Ranger will walk students through the benefits of a prescribed fire, particularly within the prairie restoration process. Students will learn about equipment, personal protective equipment, and possible NPS careers in wildland fire management.

Objectives:
Students will be able to describe the process of a prescribed burn including equipment used.
Students will be able to explain why prescribed burns are beneficial on prairie land.
Students will be able to determine whether a career in wildland fire management is appropriate for them.

How to Participate:
Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site can use a variety of technology to connect with schools. Please contact our education specialist to schedule a test call at least one week prior to desired program time.
