Reformers and activists in the 1800s used newspapers and public speaking events to share their ideas. What would it be like if they had today’s social media on their side?

In this activity, you’ll be the media manager for a nineteenth-century activist. Then think about how you’d share their message—videos, blogs, photos—and why.

Preparation

Background

Would Suffragists have had greater success if they had Social Media on their side?  Who would be TikTok Famous?  Who would be an Instagram Influencer?
Let’s use Social media spread the word.
You are the media manager for a Suffragist and her/his own story.  Create a meme and a post to Tweet, post on Facebook or Instagram, a Snap, or a TiKTok, for this Suffragist.  Share their story, make their hard work TikTok famous.

Review the following online resources.  Find a Suffragist that you connect to.

Consider the following questions while crafting the post:

  • Who needs to know about this person and their story?

  • When and where did this person participate in the struggle for Women’s Rights?

  • What makes this person’s hard work and dedication worth sharing?

  • How do you connect to this person’s struggle?
