Rangers, Guides or Volunteers will provide a short guided tour of the fortifications and artillery batteries. This may be a walking tour or short bus tour, depending upon the weather conditions and teacher's preference.
Buses should meet the guide at the main entrance or Civil War fort (Tour Stop #3). Be prepared for inclement weather (raincoats or umbrellas), as there are no pavilions nearby. Restrooms are located in the picnic area, about 1/4 mile from the fort.
This guided tour provides a discussion of the Civil War fortification, the river, the armament, and the lives of the soldiers.
Teachers may adapt this for younger audiences, utilizing the Junior Ranger Handbook. Please discuss this option with the Ranger staff.
