Sand Beach is one of the few Sand Beaches on Mount Desert Island, and one of the few naturally occuring beaches in Acadia National Park.

A storymap is a visual representation that allows students to explore the beach and ask questions about how the beach is formed.

A Day at Sand Beach explores:

  • How was the beach formed?
  • What is deposition?
  • What is erosion?
  • What is weathering?
  • How does the beach change over time?
  • What are some factors that make the beach unique?

Materials

Weathering is the breaking down of materials. The creation of Sand Beach is largely due to weathering. Demonstrating weathering using an antacid can be a great extension to the story map
