Essential Question

What does it mean if an animal is endangered or extinct?

Objective

Students will receive an endangered or extinct mystery animal card taped to their backs. They must use critical thinking skills to ask the right questions and discover the identity of their mystery animal. They will discuss what it means to be extinct or endangered and ways they can help those animals that are threatened with extinction.

Background

Our "Wildlife" unit contains various lesson plans, each taking 20 minutes to an hour to complete, and targeted mainly at 4th-6th grade students. A class needn't complete every lesson in the unit, though some lessons do refer to one another and are better done in sequence. Each lesson comes with its own set of objectives and resources as well as suggestions for related activities.
 

Preparation

Incorporate the Everglades into your lesson planning. In partnership with teachers, we are proud to offer multidisciplinary, curriculum-based activities that bring relevant lessons from the field into the classroom.
