The original We Shall Overcome travel itinerary was created in 1998. While it by no means included all of the sites associated with civil rights, it presented a range of churches, private residences, and public sites of protest that spoke to the history of the African American Civil Rights Movement. The We Shall Overcome travel itinerary was chosen for inclusion in the African American Civil Rights Network in October 2019. This section of the updated website presents a snapshot of the original itinerary – before many more sites were added to the National Register.
If you’re curious to see other sites associated with the struggle for civil rights, explore the resources under the Visit navigation. You can also find places of civil rights near you by doing your research under the Research It! section.
