Transfer Your Account to Someone Else

Investigators who want to give responsibility for studies to someone else (e.g. upon their retirement) may transfer all of their account information to another person. Both the donor and the recipient must have an investigator account. The transfer is permanent. Once the process is completed, the donor will no longer have access to their applications, permits, reports, or other data.

The recipient will be able to submit any outstanding Investigator Annual Reports for permits which the donor held, with the IARs thus submitted still showing the donor’s name, permit number, and study number. The recipient will also be able to renew permits held by the donor, but the renewals will now be issued to the recipient.

Because the transfer is permanent, there are multiple confirmation steps enacted through emails to both the donor and the recipient in sequence. Both participants should check their email spam folders. The emails contain links that must be clicked to proceed. We realize that you may be wary of links embedded in system emails. Rest assured, these are all safe and legitimate.

Please note that the process both begins and ends with the donor taking action -- starting it within RPRS and completing it by clicking a confirmation link in an email.

How to Do This

If you are a donor who wants to transfer everything to a recipient, log in to your account. On the Investigator Dashboard, scroll to the “One Time Tasks” section at the bottom and click on the “Transfer ALL my investigator account data to another investigator’s account” link. Doing so leads to a “Transfer Warning” page. Please read the warning. Keep in mind that this function will transfer all account data, your account will be emptied, and the transfer is irreversible.

After clicking the “Continue” button at the bottom of the Transfer Warning, you will be prompted for the email address of the recipient. The recipient must already have an investigator account. The email address that you enter must match the address associated with the recipient’s account. If the addresses match, clicking “Continue” will send a system-generated email to the recipient.

The first email is a system message sent to the recipient. In the example to the right, the message is sent to rprsinvest3. It explains that rprsinvest1 (the donor) wants to transfer all data to the recipient and describes what that means. The message includes a link that rprsinvest3 must click on if they accept the offer. If the recipient clicks on it, a second system-generated confirmation email will be sent to the donor.

The second email is a system message sent to the donor. In the example to the right, the message is sent to rprsinvest1. It explains that rprsinvest3 accepted the offer and agrees to receive all the account data. It again describes what that means, and that the donor will lose access to their data. The message includes a link that rprsinvest1 must click on to complete the transfer. Again, note that the final step in the process must be taken by the donor.

After these actions have been completed, the results can be seen in RPRS. When rprsinvest1 logs in, they will see their Investigator Dashboard is empty (all counters set to zero). When rprsinvest3 logs in, they will see their Investigator Dashboard includes new data transferred from the donor’s account.
