    Before and After Asheville Corridor Hurricane Helene

    On November 6, 2024, the National Park Service restored access to approximately 11 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, within the Asheville corridor, from milepost 382.5 to milepost 393.6 after its closure following Hurricane Helene.

    The Blue Ridge Parkway from milepost 0 to milepost 198 in Virginia, which closed due to impacts from Hurricane Helene, will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, October 11. This includes the 198 miles of the scenic byway from Shenandoah National Park south to Virginia Route 685 - Skyview Drive/Turkey Ridge Road (near Fancy Gap).

    Three trails are closed while crews fix damage from Hurricane Beryl. Big Sandy, Birdwatchers, and Woodlands trails have downed trees, damaged bridges, and washouts following strong winds and rain from last week's storm.

    Dry Tortugas National Park will reopen on August 31 after the passage of Hurricane Idalia. Weather permitting, ferry and seaplane tours will also resume. Fort Jefferson, South Beach, and the campground on Garden Key are open.

    On Aug. 28 at 5 p.m., Dry Tortugas National Park will temporarily close for the safety of visitors and staff in preparation for Tropical Storm Idalia. Concession-operated ferry and sea plane services are also temporarily suspended.
