![]() The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield Established in 1989, The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield, Inc. serves as both an advocacy and advisory group for and a cooperative partner of the National Park Service to positively promote and protect the history and resources of Stones River National Battlefield. The Friends of Stones River National Battlefield, Inc. is considered a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of Tennessee and classified as a 501(c)(3) organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Code. ![]() The vision of the African American Heritage Society is to help all residents value the history of African Americans in our community. They have partnered with us to learn more about the Cemetery Community, a Freedmen's community that emerged on the battlefield following the Civil War, and to share that knowledge with the public through special programs. ![]() The Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area tells the whole story of America's greatest challenge, 1860-1875: the powerful stories of vicious warfare, the demands of the homefront and occupation, the freedom of emancipation, and the enduring legacies of Reconstruction. |
