Caution: Bears Frequenting This Area are Seeking Campers' Food and Damaging Property

Bears frequenting this area have received food rewards from campers and are returning to the campground, especially after dark.  

All scented items should be stored in a latched food storage box.

• DO NOT leave food and scented items in your vehicle. Clean your vehicle, remove carseats, close windows, and lock doors. 

• Trash is treasure to bears! Dispose of your trash immediately after a meal, don’t leave it out at your campsite. 

• All food, trash, and scented items like soap or candles should be secured in the storage box when not in use. 

Keep yourself, nearby campers, and your property safe! 

• If you see a bear anywhere in the campground, immediately store all food and scented items. 

• Scare the bear away by yelling “GET OUT OF HERE BEAR!”, waving arms, and banging pots and pans. Help your neighbors if they are unsure what to do. DO NOT LEAVE FOOD UNATTENDED WHILE SCARING A BEAR. 

• Bears that are persistent about getting human foods and acting boldly towards people may need to be put down. Help protect the bear by scaring it away. 

Due to frequent bear activity, expect to hear loud noises, day or night, from park staff or other visitors attempting to haze bears from the campground.

 

The South Fork of the Kings River gently winds through the forested landscape of Cedar Grove. This area of Kings Canyon National Park features several popular day hikes.

You are required to store food properly in order to protect bears. Each campsite has a large food storage locker (47”W x 33”D x 28”H) that is resistant to bears when properly latched.

Pets are permitted within the campground, but must be leashed at all times. Leash should be no longer than 6 feet. Learn more about pet regulations.
