Wildland fire engines play a dynamic role in fire management operations throughout the national parks. ![]() NPS/Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks photo Engine 72’s mission is to take pride in supporting the National Park Service in a team-oriented, safe, and efficient environment that fosters career training opportunities. The type-3 crew also collaborates with Kings Canyon National Park Engine 51 in initial attack response, extended attack, severity coverage, and training. Both engines work across program areas, and respond to all-hazard emergencies such as search-and-rescues, first aid, and natural disasters. ![]() NPS/Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks photo The work environment includes extreme weather conditions, hiking, public interaction, physical training, and working long hours. It also includes partnering with state, county, and local organizations on hazard fuel mitigations and defensible space.
